03 Kimono Care
⚠ Kimonos cannot be washed in a washing machine.
1. Take it off on the mat
Before taking off the kimono, wash your hands and lay down a mat, then take it off on top of that. Please use a kimono-specific mat or a clean mat.
2. Hang and dry
After taking off the kimono, spread the collar and hang the nagajuban on separate hangers to remove moisture and wrinkles. Dry in a well-ventilated shaded area for a few hours to half a day.
3. Check for stains and dirt
While hanging, check for overall dirt.
Even a tiny stain can become surprisingly noticeable later, so please be careful.
It is recommended to have stains and dirt professionally cleaned as soon as possible.
4. Remove dust before storing
If there are no particular stains, fold it and store it wrapped in a storage paper until the next time you wear it.
Once the moisture from the kimono has evaporated, use a dry towel or a soft cloth, or a brush to lightly tap the shoulders, sleeves, and hem to remove dust. Be careful not to rub.
04 About handling kimono
Q. How should I store it after purchase?
Since kimono can fade in color when exposed to ultraviolet rays, please avoid direct sunlight and store it flat to prevent wrinkles.
Q. Is there anything to be careful about before storing?
After wearing, hang it in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight for about half a day to overnight to thoroughly remove moisture.
※ If you hang it for too long, the fabric may stretch, so please aim to remove moisture for about half a day.
After that, please check for any stains or dirt before storing.
Especially around the collar, cuffs, and hem, foundation, sweat stains, and mud splashes tend to accumulate, so it would be good to check these areas carefully.
If you find stains or dirt, please consult a cleaning professional as soon as possible.
